Marvelโ€™s Agatha All Along Episode 6 takes us deeper into the backstory of Billy Maximoff, a.k.a. Wiccan, following the shocking revelation of his true identity in Episode 5. This episode, titled “Familiar By Thy Side,” continues to unravel the mysteries surrounding Billy, formerly known as William Kaplan, and explores his connection to the Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff. In a blend of flashbacks and present-day moments, this episode gives us a fuller picture of Billy’s past, his resurrection, and the trials that await him on the legendary Witches’ Road. Hereโ€™s a deep dive into all the key moments, packed with spoilers.

A Tragic Past Unveiled: From William Kaplan to Billy Maximoff

Episode 6 opens with a flashback to William Kaplan’s bar mitzvah, a scene that seemingly marks a normal coming-of-age celebration but soon hints at a more mystical destiny for the young boy. Williamโ€™s parents, played by Paul Adelstein and Maria Dizzia, proudly watch as he performs his bar mitzvah rites. However, the celebration takes a strange turn when William visits a palm readerโ€™s tent, where he encounters Lilia Calderu, a powerful witch. Lilia sees something unusual in Williamโ€™s future, remarking that his lifeline is โ€œbroken in twoโ€ and that a long journey of transformation lies ahead.

Liliaโ€™s reading foreshadows the dramatic events to come, as we later learn that Williamโ€™s life force will indeed split in twoโ€”his soul intertwining with that of Billy Maximoff, the son of Wanda Maximoff, who perished during the events of WandaVision. Lilia inscribes a sigil onto a wooden block and secretly slips it into Williamโ€™s jacket. The sigil will play a crucial role later on, as it protects Billyโ€™s identity while simultaneously hinting at his fractured existence.

Just as the bar mitzvah celebration reaches its peak, a sudden emergency alert warns of strange anomalies in Westviewโ€”the same town that was the epicenter of Wandaโ€™s Hex in WandaVision. The party is abruptly cut short, and Williamโ€™s family drives away, only to get caught in a car accident as the Hex begins to collapse around them. Williamโ€™s parents survive with minor injuries, but William is critically injured and seemingly dies on the scene.

It is here that we witness the supernatural intervention that shapes the rest of the series. As William lies unconscious, the soul of Billy Maximoff enters his body, effectively resurrecting him. In a chilling moment, William awakens and shouts, โ€œTommy!โ€โ€”calling out for his twin brother, whom we last saw in WandaVision. The teenager we now know as Teen, or Billy Maximoff, is born from this fusion of souls, but he has no memory of his past life.

A New Life with Hidden Truths

After the accident, William/Billy is taken to the hospital, where he begins to display signs of his supernatural heritage. He can hear his parentsโ€™ thoughts, and as they worry about his future, he struggles to reconcile his fractured identity. Despite being alive again, something is deeply wrongโ€”he no longer feels like William Kaplan.

As time passes, Billy grows more distant from his old life. Three years later, now a teenager, Billy begins a romantic relationship with a boy named Eddie (played by Miles Gutierrez-Riley). In an intimate scene, Billy confesses to Eddie that something changed inside him after the accident, admitting that he died that night and came back as someone different. He tells Eddie that heโ€™s not truly William Kaplan, but Billy Maximoffโ€”a revelation that hints at the enormous struggle Billy faces to understand who he truly is.

During this period, Billy also begins his research into the Hex and the mysterious events of Westview. A pivotal moment occurs when Billy tracks down Ralph Bohner (Evan Peters), the man who once posed as Pietro Maximoff in WandaVision. Ralph reveals everything he knows about Agatha Harkness, Wandaโ€™s twin sons Billy and Tommy, and the chaotic events that unfolded in Westview. This newfound knowledge drives Billy to seek out Agatha and confront her, setting the stage for the trials ahead.

The Witchesโ€™ Road and Agathaโ€™s Manipulations

The episode pivots back to the present as Billy, now fully embracing his identity as Billy Maximoff, confronts Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) on the Witchesโ€™ Roadโ€”a magical gauntlet of trials that promises to reward any witch who survives with what they are missing. Billy, however, has no interest in gaining more power. His true goal is to find his twin brother, Tommy, whom he can sense is still out there somewhere.

Agatha, though visibly weakened after being freed from Wandaโ€™s spell, remains sharp and manipulative. In a tense encounter, Billy crushes the sigil that had been placed in his jacket by Lilia, seemingly breaking a spell that had kept Agatha from fully recognizing his true identity. For the first time, Agatha acknowledges Billy as Wiccan, the son of the Scarlet Witch.

Despite their past conflicts, Billy and Agatha form a reluctant alliance. Billy makes it clear that he doesnโ€™t trust Agatha, but he needs her help to navigate the treacherous Witchesโ€™ Road. Agatha, for her part, agrees to help Billy, but only on the condition that they complete the trials together. She quips that โ€œthe last one there is a nice person,โ€ to which Billy replies, โ€œIโ€™m not that nice,โ€ underscoring the growing darkness within himโ€”a trait reminiscent of his mother, Wanda.

    What Is Billy Really After?

While the episode answers many questions about Billyโ€™s past, it raises new ones about his future. Billy is no longer the naรฏve young man he once was. Heโ€™s determined to find his brother Tommy, but his journey on the Witchesโ€™ Road suggests that there may be more trials ahead than simply locating his twin. Agatha speculates that Billyโ€™s desire for power might be more deeply ingrained than heโ€™s willing to admit, but Billy remains adamant that Tommy is his only concern.

Interestingly, the episode also teases the fates of Lilia Calderu and Jennifer Kale, two witches who were seemingly killed by Billy in Episode 5. While they are implied to be dead after being buried in the dirt during a magical duel, the midseason trailer hints that their stories are far from over. We can expect them to return in future episodes, possibly during the remaining trials on the Witchesโ€™ Road.

The Darkness Within: Billyโ€™s Struggle for Identity

As the episode closes, Billyโ€™s internal struggle becomes more apparent. He is no longer simply the reincarnated son of the Scarlet Witchโ€”he is something more, and something darker. His powers, which once manifested out of anger and desperation, now seem to be under his control, though not entirely. Agatha warns him that surviving the Witchesโ€™ Road might bring out the worst in him, but Billy is willing to take that risk if it means reuniting with Tommy.

With only a few episodes left in the season, the stakes have never been higher. Billyโ€™s journey is far from over, and while he may have temporarily allied himself with Agatha, their uneasy partnership is bound to unravel as they get closer to their final goal. The question remains: Will Billy find his brother, or will the trials of the Witchesโ€™ Road push him to become something darker than even Agatha anticipated?

Marvel fans will undoubtedly be left on the edge of their seats as they wait to see how this story unfolds. The echoes of WandaVision are ever-present in Agatha All Along, but Billyโ€™s journey is entirely his ownโ€”one filled with magic, loss, and the desire for family. As we approach the seasonโ€™s end, itโ€™s clear that Billy Maximoffโ€™s story is only just beginning.
