Deadpool & Wolverine has finally hit screens, bringing with it a show that combines the bold personality of Deadpool with the tough determination of Wolverine in a way that has never been done before. Fans have been looking forward to this movie ever since the test video of Deadpool went viral and gained a lot of attention. The movie lives up to the hype by combining the best parts of both characters in an exciting adventure to save Deadpool’s world. Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, and Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman in a gritty return, work together to fight the bad plans of Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen), a rogue TVA middle manager, and Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin), a dangerously unstable person.
Within the vast Marvel Cinematic Universe and the history of 20th Century Fox’s superhero movies, Deadpool & Wolverine finds its way through a maze of new and old characters. Get ready for a movie that isn’t just a crossover; it’s a celebration of Marvel’s cinematic milestones, full of enough Easter eggs and surprise appearances that this post needs an epic spoiler note. You should watch the movie now if you haven’t already. The review of Deadpool and Wolverine that doesn’t give away any surprises can be found here.
10. Wumi Masaku as Hunter B-15
Wumi Masaku’s first appearance in the MCU was in the TV show Loki as Hunter B-15, a strict TVA agent who teams up with the god of mischief in a strange way. At the end of Loki season 2, B-15 takes on a bigger part in the new TVA. Even though the TVA has a great new job, it still has some bad people working for it. The actor Matthew Macfadyen plays Mr. Paradox, who works behind the scenes to destroy Deadpool’s world. He’s probably a little annoyed with his job at the TVA and holds a grudge. The TVA finally finds out about this illegal activity and sends B-15 to Earth 100005 to arrest Paradox. B-15 also meets Deadpool and Wolverine. She likes Peter more than Deadpool or Wolverine, but he also likes B-15.
09. Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan
Right now Deadpool is a part of the MCU, but that doesn’t make him an Avenger. Early in the movie, Wade goes to the Avengers base and is interviewed by Happy Hogan. Jon Favreau plays the part again in an office full of Easter eggs. As well as an unfinished Captain America shield and an Iron Man helmet, Happy also has a copy of Forbes with Pepper Potts on the cover. Wade is upset that he wasn’t able to talk to a real Avenger. This makes Wade wonder when exactly Happy went from being a driver to being in charge of security. Happy tells Wade what it means to be an Avenger, even though Wade isn’t hired because this series began with Favreau.
08. Different Versions of Deadpool
The movie can’t help but poke fun at the idea of the Multiverse. The directors aren’t above following this trend, but along the way, our heroes meet Deadpool’s nicest version, played by Ryan Reynolds without the mask, and Dogpool, who won Britain’s ugliest dog award in real life. At the end, Kidpool, Babypool, Deadpool 2099, Cowboy Deadpool, and Headpool (voiced by Matthew McConaughey and Nathan Fillion, respectively) all show up, making the movie feel like Spider-Verse. Lady Deadpool is in charge, but her face isn’t shown. The part is played by Blake Lively, which can be confirmed by the credits. There’s no way that natural healing can’t fix the damage that Deadpool Prime and Wolverine do to the Red Army. The good news is that they have a hidden weapon: none of the Deadpools can resist Peter. Each Deadpool has one.
07. The Old Mutants Are Sent to the Void
A lot of mutants we haven’t seen in years show up when Deadpool and Wolverine do. Aaron Stanford, who plays Pyro, is in charge. Tyler M. comes back as Sabretooth, giving fans the fight with Wolverine they’ve been waiting for. Again, Ray Park gets tongue-tied as Toad, but this time he doesn’t get hit by lightning. Lady Deathstrike, Azazel, and the Juggernaut are also back in action. Even though they’re not the star cast members, their appearance shows how many mutants got lost when the 20th Century Fox universe fell apart. We forgot how much we missed these stars and characters until they showed up again.
06. Jennifer Garner as Elektra
Elektra, played by Jennifer Garner, has been a joke for more than 20 years. But seeing Garner play the part again here, we think she could have always been a tough Elektra. Daredevil didn’t give Elektra much to do before she was killed off without a proper funeral. She came back in a spin-off that was also poorly written, though. Elektra played by Garner is saved when she teams up with Deadpool, Wolverine, and a few other characters. It’s funny to see Garner laugh as the part, even though she plays it straight. Elektra is at her best when she casually says that her version of Daredevil didn’t make it, which doesn’t make her sad. Because Garner has a past with Ben Affleck, there’s more to think about.
05. Daphne Keane as X-23
X-23 has always been a fan favorite, but Daphne Keane’s performance made her even more well-known. It looked like Keane wouldn’t be able to play any other X-Men characters after Logan. We all thought that Hugh Jackman had retired from acting, too. The two X-Men bring Laura back to go on another trip with her dad, or at least one of his versions. This Wolverine is very much like Laura’s father, even though they have never met before. She talks Wolverine up for the third act, which is very important. X-23 still has her sunglasses and is ready to fight. At first, Keane wasn’t sure if she could bring back the same spark, but as soon as the cameras started rolling, it felt like it had only been 8 years.
04. Henry Cavill as Wolverine
In his search for a new Wolverine, Deadpool goes all over the Multiverse. In one world, there is a short Wolverine that looks like the comic book version, and in another, his alter ego Patch is playing poker. Deadpool also fights the Hulk where the Hulk and Wolverine were fighting, and the Hulk punches Deadpool out of his world. This most likely refers to Wolverine’s first appearance in The Incredible Hulk #180–181. Because of the angle, it’s hard to tell if this Hulk is supposed to be Mark Ruffalo’s version of the hero or if it’s a completely different Hulk.
After that, Deadpool meets a different version of Wolverine. That one Wolverine doesn’t look like Hugh Jackman, but rather like the actor who played Superman in the DCEU. He became “Man of Steel” almost ten years ago, and now Henry Cavill is Wolverine in the MCU. Since Cavill’s version isn’t interested in Deadpool’s offer, things quickly turn violent, though this time he doesn’t break anyone’s neck. This might be the last time we see this version, but Cavill is now part of a small group of actors who have worked in both movie worlds.
03. Channing Tatum as The Gambit
Many times when Channing Tatum has played Gambit, he has been given bad hands. He was supposed to play the Cajun mutant in X-Men: The Last Stand, but the part was cut in the end. Tatum was busy filming G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra when X-Men Origins: Wolverine came out. Taylor Kitsch got the part of Gambit. In 2014, Tatum agreed to be in a movie by himself called Gambit. People also thought the character would show up in X-Men: Apocalypse. The spin-off of Gambit was dropped around the same time that Disney bought Fox, so none of this worked out.
02. Chris Evans as The Human Torch
Most of the Avengers can only be seen in old video on the TVA. This includes Chris Hemsworth, whose touching scene with a dying Deadpool is taken from Thor: The Dark World and used here. But in the void, Deadpool and Wolverine meet another Chris who is wearing a blue outfit that they know. There is only one thing that this could mean: Steve Rogers is back. There’s no Rogers here, just Johnny Storm, who Evans played before he became the Star-Spangled Man. This makes Deadpool sad. As funny as it is to hear Evans say “flame on” again, it is also funny how the character ends up. The main idea is that Deadpool is entirely to blame for Johnny’s death.
01. Wesley Snipes as Blade
Wesley Snipes as Blade is still one of the best superhero casting choices ever, just like Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. Blade joins forces with the titular pair for an epic fight, along with Elektra, Gambit, and X-23. Blade was Marvel’s first R-rated movie, which means that a lot of things have come full circle with Snipes’s return. Unfortunately, Blade: Trinity, which also starred Reynolds, was a sad ending to the series. Even though Snipes wanted to play the part again, it didn’t look like it would happen after Mahershala Ali was cast as Blade in the MCU. Even though he’s not the only Blade anymore, Snipes is a reminder of how successful Marvel was in movies in the beginning.
